Flushing your Cannabis plants before harvest

Flushing means to only feed your plants water whenever you would feed them nutrients.

This is to remove all traces of nutrients stored inside your plants stems and leaves.

Without flushing you will have an excessive amount of these nutrients which can cause health issues when you consume your Cannabis after harvest.

Flushing needs to be repeated for 8-14 days, I prefer to flush at least 12 days before I harvest my female Cannabis plants.

When you flush Cannabis you should always give water to the top of the soil, do not use the same tecnique as when bottom feeding.

The water will sink through the soil carrying all the excess nutrients away.

It is best to add water only when the soil of your plants feels dry and dusty on top, which should be every two-three days. (see our water management pages for more info )
This way you will know that most of the water is absorbed by your plants.

Give enough water to see it drain out from the bottom of the pots and then let them stand for about an hour, or until the pots have completely stopped leaking water from the bottom.

I like to clean the trays the pots stand in after this hour of draining, it is quite a lot of work but will prevent mold and other bacterial attacks on my Cannabis flowers.

Repeat this process up until 14 days and your plants should completely flushed of nutrients and ready to harvest.
